3" Basalt
Crushed rock of three-inch size only, with no fines or dust. The larger size is for ground soft enough that a smaller clean rock would disappear into it- building up carports, walkways, and new driveways over muddy or saturated ground.
What goes on top?
Usually topped with 1½" or ¾" minus, depending on drainage conditions.
Choosing between the clean sizes?
The wetter and softer the ground, the larger you go. 1½" for most build-ups, 2½" or 3" where the ground is genuinely soupy or has to carry weight.
