Regular Cedar Chips are the largest cedar wood chip we have available. Being that it is splinter-free, it is commonly used in dog runs, barefoot pathways, and other soft ground covering areas. Many families choose to place this down in playgrounds versus the standard fine cedar playchip due to its larger size- making it easier to stay put and causing less displacement in the yard as well as tracking through the home.
â– It is important to note that although cedar has a fantastic ability to naturally repel bugs, fleas, and other pests- it is also unfortunately great at repelling pollinators. This works well for play areas, but not for gardens. We do not recommend this wood chip for garden pathways, topping garden beds, or for use anywhere near flowering (and therefore pollinating) plants. However, most shrubbery and established non-fragile plants tend to not be affected by this issue.
â– Cedar is also commonly used for mopping up wet areas or for use in moisture retention but it is important to keep in mind that cedar also has a high potential for mold growth.
â– Note about animals: Cedar is a fantastic option for dog runs and other pet areas as it repels fleas and other pests and is a splinter-free wood, however it is important that this is not a closed-in area and there is plenty of ventilation since cedar can be very aromatic. Please keep in mind that cedar is not a safe option for chickens.
